QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS- WEEK 5

Posted on Updated on

Giving this questionnaire to some people around my area made me realise what type of things the audience would look for in a movie. Now i know what i would need to do to get the attention needed from the audience. This information would help me make the film more lively and attract the audience to watch my film.

COMPARING AND CONTRASTING- WEEK 2

Posted on

I’ve decided to compare to Drama genre films and i have chosen The Godfather and Titanic. The Godfather is a crime film located in America while Titanic is a Romantic disaster film. The reason why i chose these two films to compare is because they are two different sub-genres in one main genre which is Drama. The transitions in the movie The Godfather were quick and snappy because it is a crime film and Titanic had slow and smooth movements as it is a romantic movie. The Godfather had fast transitions so that the audience would feel the presence of the crime scene approaching. The reason why Titanic had slow transitions is so that the audience would feel how romantic the scene is. The music for Titanic is slow and RnB type compared to The Godfather where loud interrogating music would be used during the crime scene. The location was not varied for both of the films as Titanic was based on the ship and The Godfather was based at the crime scene and mostly the same places. The shots were similar for both the movies as they both wanted to give a realistic feel to the audience.

MOOD BOARD ON DRAMA FILMS- WEEK 1

Posted on

I have created a mood board for the conventions of a drama film. It contains some of the things that you would typically see in drama films. I have also included some films that come under the genre of drama in the image. The films that i have included relate to the film that i am going to make and most of them involve some elements of emotion in them as my film is based on a true story. Making this mood board was really useful as it has helped me to understand all of the things that you will expect to see in this genre of film. Knowing all of this will help me when actually making my film as i can include all of these features in my short film.

GENRE ANALYSIS- WEEK 1

Posted on

The genre i have chosen to do for my main task is drama. Most of the time Drama films portray realistic characters, settings and it would also be a real life story. They hardly tend to have comedy, action or any special-effects but it always depends on the type of story it is.  As i researched into the genre Drama i have found out that it is one of the largest genres out. Real life situations such as racism, rape and drug addiction are what is normally focused on when it comes to the genre Drama. There is usually a character who ends up in a conflict towards the middle of the film and the rest of the film shows what hes done to sort it out. They normally have painful resolutions. For example, a death of a family member. The sounds which are used are always realistic as they are trying to portray a realistic story. there are not many transition, the change over to different scenes would be smooth unlike horror movies which would have quick snappy transition to scare the audience. Many shots wont be used for a Drama film as it wont look realistic, however shots such as close up shots would be used to show the facial expression of a character and wide shots would be used to show where the scene is set.

INTRODUCTION TO MAIN TASK

Posted on Updated on

I have decided to do the video task for my main task. I will have to do an opening scene of a fiction film which has to be two minutes maximum. I also have to have an intro, e.g. title.  Drama is the genre I have chosen for this task. I chose this genre as I wanted to connect it to a real life situation which I witnessed. I chose video instead of print task as I already have previous experience on filming. The video task is more challenging and time consuming so everyone would enjoy this task more.

EVALUATION OF PRELIMINARY TASK

I have positive and negative aspects from my first practical work for media. Making a two minutes clip isn’t easy as it seems, there are steps you’ll have to follow before filming. You will have to create a storyboard which shows the storyline well detailed and a script which shows the dialogue of the characters. Editing the video was not a problem for me as I already have experience on editing videos for my personal use. Everyone from the group had equal amount of work to do so no one was left out and everyone was busy with something.

Personally I think that as a group we could have improved on the type of shots we used for our short clip. Movements such as tilt shot could’ve been used to make the main character look as if he has more power.

Overall we worked hard as a team.
